EMRC is currently developing a Regional Digital Strategy for Perth’s Eastern Region to assist businesses and the community in reaping the benefits of the emerging digital economy and all it has to offer.
During March, EMRC hosted a series of workshops designed to consult with local business and industry around challenges and opportunities relating to our digital future. The workshops were highly successful and featured a broad cross-section of the business and residential community. Those that participated discussed strategies that could help underpin the future prosperity of the Perth's Eastern Region.
The strategy is currently under development by the EMRC, who have commissioned Explor, a digital consultancy headed by former Premier of Tasmania, Hon. David J. Bartlett to assist with its delivery.
Those unable to attend any of the workshops are invited to participate by completing one of our five minute surveys:
Residents Survey - for residents who live in Perth's Eastern Region
Business Survey - for businesses operating in Perth's Eastern Region
These surveys form an integral part of the strategy by helping us to determine the capacity, understanding, awareness and use of digital technology in the region. Your time is greatly appreciated.
EMRC's previous work in the digital space has included the Regional Broadband Business Case. In order to demonstrate the suitability of the region for early rollout under the National Broadband Network (NBN), EMRC worked with member councils to produce the Broadband Regional Business Case. The business case identifies opportunities and benefits that would accrue in Perth's Eastern Region with the introduction of affordable high speed broadband and was lodged with Senator Conroy in June 2010.
A construction plan for the National Broadband Network has been released. For more information on the NBN Co rollout plan please visit their website.
EMRC and its member councils will continue to advocate on behalf of the region for high speed broadband.
The executive summary of the Regional Business Case for Broadband Infrastructure Upgrades across Perth's Eastern Region is available below, along with the Broadband Blackspot Survey Report 2008.
