Household and domestic waste

 Residents can dispose of a range of waste at the Red Hill transfer station, including:

  •     Car bodies
  •     General household waste
  •     Household hazardous waste
  •     Tyres
  •     Recyclable items (*must be emptied):
  •           Aluminium cans*
  •           Batteries (dry cell or automotive)
  •           Cardboard
  •           Clothing
  •           Electronic waste
  •           Glass (except window and shower cubicle glass)
  •           Greenwaste
  •           Mattresses
  •           Newspaper
  •           Oil (up to 20 litres)
  •           Plastic containers (all type 1 & 2)*
  •           Plastic plant pots
  •           Scrap steel
  •           Steel cans*
  •           Whitegoods

Please note that the following items are not recyclable:

  •     Ceramics
  •     Window panes and shower cubicle glass

Car bodies

EMRC member Council residents can dispose of car bodies for a fee of $10.00/car body. Cars must be empty of rubbish and licence plates removed.

Tyres

If you are a resident of one of EMRC's six member Councils you can dispose of a maximum of four tyres (car, 4WD or motorcycle) per visit on payment of the appropriate fees. To dispose of more than four tyres, or truck tyres, contact should be made with Reclaim Industries on (08) 9418 8144 or any other tyre recyclers.

Electronic waste

Residents can dispose of unwanted electronic items at the Red Hill transfer station. Working with local company, Technology Assisting the Disabled WA, many items will be refurbished and reused. All other items will be sent to a local electronic waste recycler.

A $10/item fee applies to computer hard drives, monitors and televisions.

Items accepted include:

  • All computer hard drives, monitors and associated parts (keyboards, mice and cables)
  • Laptop computers
  • Printers
  • Scanners
  • Fax machines
  • Stereos

Greenwaste

Greenwaste (garden waste) must not be contaminated by plastic bags, plant pots and glass etc. The greenwaste is diverted to EMRC's composting operations and processed into composted mulch.

Greenwaste should be less than 1.5m long and no more than 300mm in diameter.

Composted mulch is often made available to residents disposing of waste at the transfer station. Availability can not be guaranteed.

Mattresses

Unwanted mattresses can be disposed at the Red Hill Transfer Station for $5/mattress. The mattresses will be recycled at EMRC's Hazelmere Recycling Centre.
