Investment opportunities

Investment in Perth's Eastern Region is critical to building a strong regional economy that stimulates business confidence and creates sustainable employment opportunities.

The EMRC plays a key role in facilitating new investment through:

  • Regional marketing and promotion - promoting the region's lifestyle, attractions and amenities to potential visitors and residents (see PerthTourism.com.au for more information);

  • Facilitation of industry clusters; and

  • Identifying and promoting opportunities for residential, industrial and commercial development within each member Council area, including major sites and potential business opportunities.

Significant investment is occuring on the following regional scale projects which provide opportunities for partnerships and value adding.

Some of the regional scale projects include:

  • Perth Airport - $2.4 billion is being invested in the airport site by Westralia Airports Corporation to construct the new consolidated terminals and associated facilities;

  • Midland Health Campus - $360.2 million has been committed by the federal and state governments to establish a state-of-the-art facility in Midland. Operational by 2015, it will have over 300 beds offering a comprehensive range of clinical services including emergency and critical care, pediatric and adult surgery, obstetrics, cancer care and mental health services;

  • Midland GP Super Clinic - $10 million has been committed by the federal and state governments to establish a clinic that will accommodate privately practicing GPs, practice nurses, nurse practitioners, and a range of allied health professionals;

  • Midland Atelier - Established by FORM and the Midland Redevelopment Authority, the Midland Atelier is a creative design facility located within the historic Midland Railway Workshops. Opened in January 2009, the Pattern Shop houses Australian and international designers working across creative mediums from photography to fashion, jewellery and furniture design. Due to open in mid 2011, the Old Foundary Building will accommodate a broader range of cross-disciplinary studios including furniture and object design, metal (jewellery and sculpture), glass, multimedia and architectural/public art; and

  • Kewdale Intermodal Freight Terminal - $15 million is being invested by state government and private sector for works currently underway to upgrade the terminal infrastructure and facilities.

The Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS) 2010-2015 has been development and guides the EMRC in its facilitation of regional economic development activities including investment attraction for these and other opportunities.
