At its Red Hill Open Day on Saturday 6 November 2010, the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) awarded 13 local community groups with funding from its 2010/11 EMRC Community Grants Program.
EMRC is an active member of the Red Hill and surrounding neighbourhoods, supporting community groups in the area by providing grants of up to $1000 for groups that can demonstrate that their activities benefit the Gidgegannup, Hovea, Parkerville or Stoneville communities.
The successful community groups were:
EMRC Chairman, Cr Graham Pittaway OAM said "EMRC is proud to support neighbouring organisations that contribute time and effort towards the community around Red Hill."
Visitors enjoyed an informative site tour through the transfer stations, wildlife areas, landfill operations, methane gas and power station, compost and mulch operations, environmental management projects and household hazardous waste operations.
Those attending also enjoyed activities in the environmental education centre and a display on the Resource Recovery Project.
EMRC operates the Red Hill Waste Management Facility on behalf of its six member Councils - Town of Bassendean, City of Bayswater, City of Belmont, Shire of Kalamunda, Shire of Mundaring and City of Swan.
