Regional advocacy

The EMRC as a regional local government is mandated to advance the interests of the 300,000 residents of Perth's Eastern Region and acts as a promoter of regional initiatives capable of bringing benefits to the Region.

Current advocacy initiatives include:

Perth Darwin Highway - Stage One

The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) is leading a regional advocacy campaign to progress the construction of the Perth Darwin Highway - Stage One.

The Perth Darwin Highway - Stage One is a 34 kilometre section of highway starting at Reid Highway, Middle Swan and meeting up with the Brand Highway, Muchea, which will serve as an alternative route to heavy haulage vehicles and other traffic which currently traverse the Swan Valley via Great Northern Highway.

On the 3rd May 2010 the EMRC hosted the Perth to Darwin National Highway - Swan Valley Bypass Forum, with the enthusiastic and valuable participation of Frank Alban MLA

The scope of the Forum was to bring together, under the common aegis of the EMRC and Frank Alban MLA, representatives of the State and Federal Parliaments, senior State Government officials, representatives of industry and business associations, delegates of citizens' groups and members of the wider community, all sharing the aim to see the long-awaited Perth to Darwin National Highway - Swan Valley Bypass project becoming a reality.

An Advocacy Reference Group for the Perth Darwin Highway - Stage One has been formed and comprises of a range of stakeholders with a shared interest in seeing the Perth Darwin Highway - Stage One becoming a reality, including local politicians and representatives from local Councils, and business and industry associations. The Group will now work together to progress actions from the Advocacy Action Plan.
