A regional funding submission prepared by EMRC and submitted by the Shire of Kalamunda for a Regional Cycle Infrastructure Masterplan has been successful in obtaining matching funding from the Department of Transport through the Perth Bicycle Network (PBN) Local Government Grants.
This project seeks to address regional connectivity of local bike plans, particularly barriers to accessing employment and activity centres. The outcome of this project will provide Perth's Eastern Region with a plan that identifies existing and new paths that need realignment and/or development in order to have cycle paths that connect across member Council boundaries.
The masterplan is one of five priority regional projects identified in the Report of Investigations into Cycle Tourism that is considered to offer greatest benefit to Perth's Eastern Region. This project will progress the regional priority, 'to improve the planning and development of cycle infrastructure in Perth's Eastern Region'.
The project was launched at a workshop held in early November with member Councils, the Department of Transport, and other stakeholders to gather input to the development of the project.
The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC), and its member Councils - Town of Bassendean, City of Bayswater, City of Belmont, Shire of Kalamunda, Shire of Mundaring and City of Swan - in partnership with Curtin University, hosted two community cycle network forums across the region during March 2011. These forum events were a huge success with over 100 people particpating in the identification of existing and future infrastructure for cycling in Perth's Eastern Region. The data collected from these forums will be fed into the formulation of a Regional Cycle Master Plan that will guide and inform the future provision of cycle infrastructure throughout Perth's Eastern Region.
On 25 May 2011, ARRB Completed the Final Regional Cycle Network Masterplan. The final plan has been submitted to the Department of Transport for endorsement. This Masterplan was presented to the member Councils to inform key the stakeholders and decision makers of the Masterplan to assist them when planning for the expansion and maintenance associated with their respective cycle networks. The Masterplan will also be presented to Council in October for endorsement.
The Regional Cycle Network Masterplan is available for download below. Please note that the Masterplan document has been split into several parts due to the file size.
