A regional funding submission prepared by EMRC and submitted by the Shire of Kalamunda for a Regional Cycle Infrastructure Masterplan was successful in obtaining funding from the Department of Transport through the Perth Bicycle Network (PBN) Local Government Grants.
This project addressed regional connectivity of local bike plans, particularly barriers to accessing employment and activity centres. It provides Perth's Eastern Region with a plan that identifies existing and new paths that need realignment and/or development in order to have cycle paths that connect across member council boundaries.
The masterplan is one of five priority regional projects identified in the report of investigations into cycle tourism that offers greatest benefit to Perth's Eastern Region and progresses the regional priority, 'to improve the planning and development of cycle infrastructure in Perth's Eastern Region'.
The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) and its member councils - Town of Bassendean, City of Bayswater, City of Belmont, Shire of Kalamunda, Shire of Mundaring and City of Swan - in partnership with Curtin University, hosted two community cycle network forums across the region during March 2011. These events were a huge success with over 100 people participating in the identification of existing and future infrastructure for cycling in Perth's Eastern Region. The data collected from these forums fed into the formulation of a Regional Cycle Network Masterplan that guides and informs the future provision of cycle infrastructure throughout Perth's Eastern Region.
ARRB completed the final Regional Cycle Network Masterplan in May 2011 which was submitted to the Department of Transport and EMRC Council for endorsement. This masterplan informs key stakeholders and decision makers to assist them when planning for the expansion and maintenance associated with their respective cycle networks.
The Regional Cycle Network Masterplan is available for download below. Please note that the masterplan document has been split into several parts due to the file size.
