Site options

Currently the waste from the region is collected and trucked to EMRC's Red Hill Waste Management Facility.  The resource recovery facility will dramatically reduce the volumes going to landfill, however there will still be a need to transport the materials to the processing site.

Two locations were considered for the resource recovery facility:

• Red Hill Waste Management Facility site - owned by the EMRC, 1094 Toodyay Road, Red Hill
• Hazelmere Recycling Centre site - owned by the EMRC, Lakes Road, Hazelmere

After consideration of resource recovery technology options, community input and project financial analysis, the recommendation made by EMRC Council was that Red Hill Waste Management Facility site is the preferred site for the resource recovery facility.
