Lotterywest funding of $180,000 was presented to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) on Thursday 28 March to support three packed days of Avon Descent family fun on the banks of the Avon and Swan Rivers.

Ms Cassie Rowe MLA, member for Belmont, presented the grant certificate to EMRC Chairman Cr David McDonnell on behalf of Lotterywest.

Cr David McDonnell said the grant will help promote and deliver six free family-orientated events alongside the iconic Avon Descent white water race.  The grant also supports a collaborative regional marketing campaign, coordinated by EMRC for the benefit of participating councils.

“The grant is a fantastic result achieved through the collaborative efforts of the EMRC and our participating member Councils: the Town of Bassendean, City of Bayswater, City of Belmont, City of Swan and our neighbouring councils the Shire of Northam and Shire of Toodyay,” Cr McDonnell added.

The 2019 Avon Descent Family Fun Days are free events hosted by participating councils, including:

  • Shire of Northam Avon River Festival - Friday, 2 August, Minson Avenue, Northam
  • Toodyay International Food Festival - Saturday, 3 August, Duidgee and Stirling Parks, Toodyay
  • City of Swan Avon Descent Festival – Sunday 4 August, Lilac Hill Park, Caversham
