Family-owned Belmont business has the ‘IT’ Factor covered

What does trillion-dollar software company Microsoft have in common with Kewdale family-owned Newtrend IT Specialists?  Both were started in garages!

Founded by Nicholas Rando in the garage of his parent’s home in 2003, Newtrend began with the aim of delivering friendly and effective IT support services to Perth businesses. A year later Nic’s brother Mitchell joined the company and the pair stepped up the pace of taking the business to the next level.

Today, from its Kewdale headquarters, Newtrend employs nearly 30 full time staff and provides IT support, managed services, cloud hosting, cyber-security and professional IP telephony services to businesses all across Perth and Western Australia.

The brothers put their success down to one simple formula:

“It’s simple,” said Nicholas. “We’ve never lost sight of providing good old-fashioned service to our clients.

“Putting relationships and integrity ahead of profits has earned Newtrend the enviable reputation of being an IT company that always does the right thing by its customers. It’s an ethos which has enabled us to pursue our goal of becoming a highly respected supplier in the Western Australian IT services market.”

This client-focused philosophy has led to the business winning multiple IT industry awards, most recently the 2019 Belmont and Western Australian Small Business Award for Digital Technology services. Newtrend also won the award for Exceptional Customer Service at the same event in 2017 as well as the APAC CIO Outlook Magazine’s top 25 MSP (Managed Service Providers) Award for 2017.

Newtrend utilises multiple marketing and social media platforms to help raise awareness of the business and drive growth, and is also an active member of multiple business groups including Business Networking International (BNI), Business Leadership of Western Australia and the Broome Chamber of Commerce.

The company has a healthy office culture where staff feel part of the Newtrend ‘family’. “This culture shines through in times where extra effort is required for support services and projects that run after hours, which tends to occur in the IT services marketplace,” said Nicholas.

As Newtrend’s team rapidly approaches 30 staff, the company has recently expanded its Kewdale premises and invested in an in-house datacentre to provide a wider range of hosting, offsite backup and cloud services that are significantly more cost effective than its competitors.

Success in the fast-evolving IT industry is often won by spotting emerging trends and developing them into new client propositions.

Explained Nicholas, “Right now the buzzword of the IT industry must be the word ‘cloud’, yet this term could not be a more misunderstood concept!

“Cloud hosting providers would have everyone believe that moving all their IT systems into the cloud is the best way of improving business reliability and efficiency.  In the real world this is simply not the case.

“We provide an objective review of a client’s IT systems to see what could potentially work better in the cloud and what should remain in-house. A ‘one IT solution fits all’ approach rarely provides the best outcome and smart businesses are discovering that a hybrid or mixed IT environment actually provides them with the greatest benefits.”
