Happiness First – the golden rule for customer care at award-winning Northam café

2019 Belmont & WA Small Business Award winners Brad and Sue Day say their growing string of prestigious business awards is down to their constant focus on customer service and quick responses to changing needs.

Brad and Sue this month celebrate the fourth anniversary of their Northam café, Happy Days Coffee Pot, with an impressively long list of regional accolades, winning their first award in 2016 after just a year of trading. Their most recent award is from the 26th Belmont & Western Australian Small Business Awards as 2019 Winner of the Customer Service Award.

The formula is proving a winner for the café owners – the couple have acquired a second Northam outlet, 2 Days Café, and are working hard to ensure their focus on customer needs and community support pays off a second time.

The couple’s passion for food and the desire to run their own business came together in November 2015 with the purchase of the Happy Days Coffee Pot.  Recognition for the business since then includes taking the winner or finalist position in no fewer than eight categories at the 2019 Awards, including winner of People’s Choice and the Best Business 6 + Employees.

Brad puts their success down to a combination of service and keeping up to date with trends.  “We’ve created a very strong focus on our customers’ needs and wants with feedback cards in our café to monitor our performance and make changes from suggestions. We offer a very clean modern industrial style café with great comfort and ambience.

“As owners we regularly attend workshops to learn more about the latest trends in marketing and customer service along with improving our business management skills.

“We are very active in our community by sponsoring organisations and helping charity groups. Our social media marketing includes promotion on Facebook, Instagram and on our web page to promote our business.”

The couple’s community support credentials include Brad’s board membership of the Northam Chamber of Commerce, while Sue is kept busy developing her idea for an Australiana Art Competition in Northam to raise funds for the Northam Rotary Club.
