Valuable data on the amount and types of waste generated by householders in EMRC member Council areas are now available following a waste audit carried out in preparation for the introduction of FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) in Perth’s Eastern region.

Between October and December 2019, 600 bins containing 8.7 tonnes of waste were examined.   Recyclables such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, aluminium and steel made up 27% of the bins’ contents. The average organics content was 55%, which included food waste, green waste, timber and other putrescible waste, of which 43.5% would be considered as processible FOGO waste.  Each household generated a weekly average of 5.2 containers eligible for the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS).

Results of the 2019 Waste Audit will be used in the modelling of Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) household waste collections and in the tender for a processing facility.
