Mattress Processing

The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) opened WA's first mattress recycling facility, providing an easy, affordable and better environmental outcome for the disposal of old mattresses. Since this time, market conditions have changed and only the spring steel is recycled where possible.

Mattresses accepted (must be dry)

  • Spring mattresses;
  • Foam (futon) mattresses; and
  • Ensemble bases.

What is recycled?

Shredded steel springs are recycled into the manufacture of new steel where possible.

Disposal fees apply

Commercial customers can dispose of mattresses at Hazelmere Resource Recovery Park for a fee.

Member Councils residents can dispose of a maximum 5 mattresses per resident at Hazelmere Resource Recovery Park or Red Hill Waste Management Facility for a fee.
