Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council Acting Chief Executive Officer Appointed

Published: Monday, 3 December 2018 at 1:16:37 PM

Following the resignation of Peter Schneider, CEO of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) in early November, Director Regional Services Wendy Harris has been appointed Acting CEO for the duration of the recruitment process for a new CEO.

A Special Meeting of the EMRC Council on Thursday 29 November also agreed that by mutual consent, Mr Schneider should not be required to serve his full three-month notice period.  Consequently, Peter will be leaving the EMRC on 7 December 2018.

EMRC Chairman Cr David McDonnell commented: “On behalf of the EMRC, I would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Peter for his leadership and significant achievements in his role as CEO over the last nine years.  We also wish Peter and his family the very best for a happy and successful future after his departure.”

A recruitment committee of six EMRC Councillors was formed at the meeting to manage the process of identifying and recruiting a replacement CEO.  The process is estimated to take between six and nine months to complete.

Cr McDonnell added: “Pending the appointment of a full-time CEO, Director Regional Services Wendy Harris will take on the role of Acting CEO.  This decision was taken in view of Wendy’s familiarity with the EMRC’s operations, her strong advocacy skills on behalf of Perth’s Eastern Region, and her well-established relationships with internal and external stakeholders.”
