Newly appointed EMRC CEO Matthew MacPherson, together with EMRC Chairperson, Cr Filomena Piffaretti, and EMRC Councillors Cr Tallan Ames; Cr Paul Poliwka; and Cr Doug Jeans presented EMRC community grants to eight worthy recipients, on Wednesday 22 January at the Red Hill Waste Management Education Centre.

The EMRC announces the departure of CEO Marcus Geisler after five years of dedicated service. Under Mr Geisler’s leadership, the EMRC has made significant strides in implementing innovative resource recovery initiatives, contributing to a more sustainable and circular future.

The series of Avon Descent Festivals held their annual celebrations last weekend, where Lotterywest were a major supporter. The Festivals were packed with music, food vendors, market stalls and kids entertainment while complimenting the riverbanks filled with paddlers and power boats taking on the water, the Avon Descent Race.

In celebration of the 2024 Avon Descent, held on the second weekend in August, Northam’s Avon Descent Association (NADA) will offer kayaking, and power craft challenges along 124km of Avon Descent course, as well as day 2 short course options for general paddle, surf boats, outriggers, SUPs and dragon boat. Four local governments will each hold their own riverside Festival over the course of the weekend, offering a vast range of family-based activities and entertainment.

After five years of dedicated service, Marcus Geisler, Chief Executive Officer of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council, has announced his retirement. The entire EMRC team and I bid farewell to a visionary leader who has steered the company through remarkable growth and success.

A Roadmap designed to increase awareness and catalyse the transition to a more Circular Economy in WA has been launched by the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC).
