Award-winning Kalamunda agency NY Events can’t promise a match made in heaven – but they can offer a match made in the hills.
Offering a unique combination of matchmaking service and comedy event organisation, Yvonne Fletcher and Nicole Airey’s idea took hold two years ago as an outlet for their passion of community support and organising singles events. The business has gone on to win business awards – with a marriage, two engagements and a baby on the way as proof of their successes!
The Coronavirus pandemic hasn’t interrupted the pair’s plans as they intend to expand their business online.
Explained Yvonne, “Nicole and I are both hugely passionate about events, community, fundraising and bringing people together, so the two of us starting a small business and doing what we love was the perfect recipe for a successful collaboration. We quickly launched speed dating and singles events and then moved into organising comedy and children’s events.
“I’d always wanted to start my own business but fear of failing had stopped me. Stepping into that fear meant growing as an individual and proving to myself that I am capable. Now I encourage everyone to pursue their passion and dreams. I strongly encourage people to leave things that don’t serve them and do the things that they love and I love the business that Nicole and I have created and its impact on people.”
Alongside the dating service, Yvonne and Nicole also run a successful comedy agency with an impressive array of events organised since its launch in 2018. The pair’s journey is still continuing - with their already-strong reputation for event organisation, they are now diversifying into private and corporate events. They launched two highly-successful comedy venues which act as positive local amenities.
Yvonne added, “We are two women, both mothers of three children and we encourage the best in people. We go above and beyond to with our customer service to ensure that both our audiences and performers are looked after.”
Yvonne and Nicole are passionate about both community and charity, and often engage in supporting not for profits or community events. They have already made their mark by winning the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce 2019 Business Community Spirit Award.
Among other successes, judges were impressed with their arrangement of an all-women comedy line-up for International Women’s Day and their support for Kalamunda’s Esther House Foundation with a fundraising raffle.
During the Christmas period the business supported ‘Sharing in a Hills Christmas’, a local collaboration of organisations which ensure that underprivileged receive gifts during the festive season. NY Events were local organisers for Clean Up Australia Day.
Yvonne also works for Seasons Funerals as Community Liaison in their Community Give Back Program, providing a service titled Seasons Singalong. Yvonne manages this division which provides aged care and seniors groups with a professional singer for a free 60-minute music session.
Added Yvonne, “We like to think we are valued within our community. We’re very grateful for the continued support we receive from local people, friends, family and other businesses.”
